Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations 2003 amendment 2018

The regulations require organisations to provide clear information about how cookies are used on their website and allow people to make a real choice about whether they are happy for non-essential cookies to be placed on their device. Prohibits the transmition of an automated recorded message for direct marketing purposes via a telephone, without prior consent of the subscriber. There are specific rules on: marketing calls, emails, texts and faxes; cookies (and similar technologies); keeping communications services secure; and customer privacy as regards traffic and location data, itemised billing, line identification, and directory listings.
