How do I Report Environmental Incidents?
Introduction
When an environmental incident occurs, such as a chemical spill or fire, the organisation should capture details of the incident and report to appropriate internal and external parties.
This provides an evidence trail of the impact and any mitigating actions that were taken. Over time, a trend analysis of incidents can also identify weak process areas for improvement.
Internal Reporting
Depending on the size and complexity of your organisation, the reporting lines for environmental incidents may be different.
It’s important to clearly assign responsibilities for the initial response to an incident as well as any resulting actions.
External Reporting
In some instances it may be necessary to report an environmental incident to the authorities, such as the Environmental Agency in the UK.
Compiling all the information in to a report template will have you to provide a clear picture of what happened.
